Lab & Investigations

The lab module covers test ordering, sample collection, result entry, and the printable report — without leaving the patient's chart.

The catalog

Lab → Catalog — every test the hospital offers. Each entry has:

  • Code (LIS or in-house).
  • Sample type (blood, urine, swab, etc.).
  • Reference ranges (per age / sex if needed).
  • Turnaround time.
  • Price and tax class.

Tests can be grouped into panels (e.g. CBC, LFT, RFT) for one-click ordering.

Ordering a test

From the consultation page, click Order Test and pick from the catalog. The order:

  1. Appears on the lab counter dashboard.
  2. Adds the price to the visit bill.
  3. Generates a sample-collection slip with a barcode.

Sample collection

The lab tech scans the barcode at the collection counter. The system records the collection time and the technician.

Result entry

The lab tech opens the order and enters results — typed, scanned PDF, or imported from an LIS via the CSV / HL7 bridge. Out-of-range values are flagged automatically.

The lab report

Every order produces a Lab Report PDF with the hospital letterhead, the doctor's name, the test, the result, the reference range, and a flag if abnormal. Reports can be:

  • Printed at the lab counter.
  • Emailed to the patient.
  • Pushed back to the consult page (so the doctor sees the result on the next visit).

Critical results

Mark any test result critical. The system pages the ordering doctor (SMS / app notification) and logs the acknowledgement.
